Baptism at Christ First

Baptism is a wonderful step for anyone who has placed their faith in Jesus for the forgiveness of their sins. It is a step of obedience that all believers take. It is a public declaration of your inward faith. Learn more about baptism at Christ First Church through our FAQ below. Use the button that leads to the form to let us know you are interested in being baptized.

FAQ

How often do you hold baptism services?

We do baptism services every 3-4 months. People can be baptized during either service.

Where do you do baptisms?

We generally use a large tub under the stage in our auditorium to perform baptisms. Occasionally, we will set up the tub in a Cafe or outside.

How do you perform baptisms?

We practice baptism by immersion, which was the practice of the early church. It is the best image of baptism as a picture of our death and resurrection with Christ.

What do I need to do to be baptized?

Baptism is a public declaration of a spiritual transformation. You must have already placed your faith and trust in Jesus to forgive your sins and give you eternal life. The act of baptism does not save you. It shows to everyone who witnesses it that you are a part of God's family.

How old does someone have to be to be baptized?

Baptism is a decision a person makes on their own, so they must be old enough to be aware of why they are being baptized and be able to explain their faith in Jesus. We will baptize children, but they must be old enough to articulate that they have faith in Jesus. We want kids to be able to remember what they have done and why they chose to be baptized.

What happens on a baptism Sunday?

Baptisms take place during each service, usually toward the end of the service. A Pastor explains baptism and then invites anyone who wants to be baptized to exit the auditorium to the left of the stage. You are led into the Hospitality Room. A ministry leader does a short interview to ensure you have placed your faith in Jesus and understand what you are doing.

After that, you can pick up clothing (shorts, t-shirt, undergarments) to use during baptism. These clothing items are yours to keep. You may change in a bathroom (outside the Hospitality Room or down the hallway near the South Lobby).

You will be given a towel and led to the stage when ready. A Pastor will guide you into the tub and into a kneeling position. Grasp your hands in front of you. The Pastor will ask you if you are being baptized to show your faith in Jesus and desire to live in obedience to him, to which the answer is "yes." Then he will hold your hands in front of you, recite that the baptism is done in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, guide you under the water, and bring you up out of the water. He will guide you out of the tub onto the stage, where someone will hand you a towel and lead you back to the Hospitality Room to get changed. After this, you can rejoin your friends or family in the auditorium.

What if I was baptized in my church as an infant or before I was aware of what I was doing?

Because baptism is a public declaration of your faith, if you were baptized before you understood what you were doing, we encourage you to be baptized again as an adult. If you were baptized as an adult in another church and it was a declaration of your faith in Jesus, you do not need to be baptized again.
